Landscape and Nature Renders

The Neglected Backyard Shed

A nature scene of an overgrown backyard shed with unmowed grass taking over. I made this to get familiar with arranging plants and nature models in Blender, and focused on making it feel messy and diverse, like someone's once-maintained garden that's grown wild over time.

Grass Fields at Golden Hour

This one was my very first nature scene. It's a simple grass field in the setting sun. This was the first time I used external models like grass and trees, and it opened the door for me to create much more elaborate landscapes in later projects. I spent a lot of time fiddling with the scattering and arrangement of the grass to get it looking natural.

Passing of Time

A simple animated scene of a brutalist concrete wall in a forest, looping from day to night like a time-lapse. It was made for the music video of the Time lo-fi edit. I focused on creating realistic but still visually striking lighting, the sun animates at the correct angle across the sky, and the trees sway in a sped-up motion that really strengthens the effect of time passing.

An Overlook in the Forest

A wooden overlook platform in a forest, inspired by the dune forests close to my home. I wanted to create something that felt familiar to the nature parks I've walked so many times, like a place I could've actually visited. I put a lot of effort into making the greenery dense, varied, and believable, using different tones and plant sizes to build up something that looks like it could be a real photograph. It's always fun showing this one to someone and then having to explain it's not just a google image but actually created with a computer.

Breaking of Spring on the Snow

I wanted to add some variation to the scenes I was making, so I decided to try a winter landscape. A simple snowy scene with a fence and footprints in the snow was the way to go. It reminds me of long mountain walks and skiing trips from when I was younger. Making the footprints look realistic in the snow was quite tough to pull off, and I ended up painting displacement maps by hand.
